AN APPEAL FOR FUNDS TO HELP COMPLETE THE CONSTRUCTION OF NEW ST. STEPHEN’S CATHEDRAL

A building is not the church but a people of God need a decent place to worship their God. To build Him such a place is a sign that they care so much about their God. Let us, therefore rebuild St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Kisumu, as a sign of our love for Him. To him be the Glory great things he has done.

In 1904 the first Church Missionary Society Mission Station for Western Kenya was opened in Maseno under the leadership of Archdeacon Willis. It was soon found necessary to build a church in Kisumu which was a fast growing Administrative and Commercial Center, hence the construction of St Stephen’s Church in 1912 under the supervision of Rev. W. H. Wrights, who served the church until 1924. In 1924, The Rev. Reuben Omulo became the Vicar and soon assumed the role of Headmaster as the church building served as a school during the weekday. In fact this was the forerunner of the present day Kisumu Union School, formerly known as ‘KOMULO’ – (Omulo’s place).

What Keeps Us Going

"We lost our home during the recent floods. Without the generous support of A.C.K. - St Stephen's Cathedral, Kisumu and its volunteers, I don't know how we would have coped during those difficult times."
